There is something incredibly symbolic about watching a family build a home while they are also preparing to welcome a new baby.

This recent maternity session was unlike any other. Instead of meeting in a park or studio, this beautiful family invited me into their brand-new home while it was still under construction. The walls were standing, the rooms had taken shape, but the roof trusses hadn't yet been installed. Sunlight poured through the open space above, creating the most beautiful natural light and reminding us that, just like this home, their family was still being built.

As a St. Louis maternity photographer, these are the sessions I treasure most—the ones that tell the real story of a family's journey.

A Lifestyle Maternity Session With Big Brother

Their energetic two-year-old stole everyone's hearts.

Rather than expecting him to sit perfectly still and smile at the camera, we embraced exactly who he is in this season of life. We explored the rooms that will soon be filled with memories, laughed together, and played rounds of hide-and-seek between unfinished walls.

Those little giggles, tiny footsteps echoing through the future nursery, and joyful hugs with Mom and Dad are the moments they'll remember years from now.

Children don't have to perform during a session. Some of the most meaningful photographs happen when they're simply allowed to be kids.

One day this little one will grow up hearing the story of the home their parents built before they were born.

They'll see these photographs and realize they were already part of the story before they ever took their first breath.
